Banks’ Chief
Designer, Bob Robe is shown measuring D-Max
Type-R exhaust manifolds. Robe designed and
fabricated the exhaust manifolds from 321 stainless
steel, which is a high grade of stainless that
can handle elevated temperatures longer than
other grades of stainless. During a 25-hour
race, there is a strong possibility of cracks
occurring. Robe considers exhaust manifolds “expendable” and
will have several sets available.

There have been many small tasks performed
on the Type-R lately as the Banks Race Shop
crew thrashes to finish the truck. The list
of tasks being tackled is as long as your
arm. Some of the details are shown above.
