Fast Pedaling

Clearly visible are the Tilton® top-mounted clutch and brake pedals. This assembly is attached to the roll cage bar that runs behind the dash. Like the Momo® steering wheel, Long® shifter, and Sparco American® seats, the Tilton pedals are mounted six inches toward the rear because of the engine setback. Moving the engine and driver/passenger toward the rear of the Camaro also improves the weight balance of the vehicle.

Custom Pedals for Control and Appearance.

To provide both extra room and a clean appearance in the engine compartment, the master brake cylinder and brake and clutch linkages were removed. The stock brake and clutch pedals also went in the trash. In their place, high-performance Tilton® aluminum pedal and master cylinder assemblies were installed under the dash. Like the firewall, these pedal assemblies were relocated six inches toward the rear of the vehicle, as were the steering wheel location and the seats. The accelerator pedal will be similarly mounted. The Tilton assembly provides dual brake master cylinders and a brake balance bar for proportioning the pedal force between the front and rear disc brakes. Also included in the assembly is the master cylinder for the hydraulic clutch. The fluid reservoirs for the master cylinders were mounted as high up as possible under the dash.

To check and fill the master cylinder reservoirs, a small access panel has replaced the normal radio speaker opening in the top of the dash. This is another of Speed’s clever ideas. Too cool!
