Sensational Spoiler

Although it looks cool, this rear spoiler is purely functional. Project Camaro will definitely be capable of speeds where rear downforce is required.

The rear spoiler on Project Camaro turns heads, but it’s not for show. Adjustable from 0º to 55º, it can be fine-tuned for the best compromise between downforce and aerodynamic drag.

The Project Camaro rear spoiler is fully adjustable to allow precise aerodynamic tuning.

Adjustment screws allow selecting spoiler angles in 5º increments. It only takes a few minutes to make this change. An aggressive setting could be used for road course driving or drag racing. A moderate setting could be used for high-speed passes, such as at the dry lakes or Bonneville Salt Flats. A fully laid back low-drag setting could be used for economy on the street and highway.

Intended to Keep This Camaro “Ground Bound”

One thing that is definitely not stock appearing on this Camaro is the unique aluminum rear spoiler. It makes a statement that this may be more than just a pretty Camaro with big wheels and tires. Of course, there are cars with large rear wings and rear spoilers on the street that have such additions for their cosmetic value only. Most such cars will never be able to go fast enough to reap any meaningful aerodynamic advantage from such devices. Instead, they just pay a gas mileage penalty for the aerodynamic drag. However, for a car truly capable of 200+ MPH, keeping the rearend on the ground at high speed is an absolute must. Without such a spoiler, the Camaro would develop undesirable rear lift as the air rushes over the roof and rear deck.

Accordingly, the Camaro’s rear spoiler was designed to be functional as well as visually head turning. It is fully adjustable in 5° increments from 0° to 55° to tune the correct balance between rear downforce and aerodynamic drag. Adjustment is made by repositioning the fasteners in the four uprights that support the spoiler. As with everything else on this ultimate street machine, the rear spoiler is the handiwork of Rick “Speed” Lefever.
