When turbo exhaust backpressure increases, the stock actuator prematurely blows off the seat, softening boost in the midrange and killing torque. With twice the diaphragm area and spring pressure of the stock wastegate, Banks BigHead Wastegate Actuator keeps the valve seated longer and achieves a higher peak boost, sooner. At peak, BigHead opens the wastegate and holds its position, for precise boost control that gives you crisp acceleration and more mid-range pulling power.
How a Turbo Wastegate Works: Let’s begin by describing what a turbo wastegate is. A wastegate is essentially a device that bypasses some exhaust flow around the turbine section of a turbocharger to control maximum boost. A wastegate is usually controlled... <read more>

I installed Banks BigHead wastegate actuator about three weeks ago and, Mama, this Duramax came alive! I just made a pull with my bay boat from my home to Galveston, Texas and back—750 miles. I set the cruise control on 77 mph and pulled the entire distance in overdrive without a downshift. The actuator smoothed out the turbo boost. It’s seamless, extremely powerful.
I just got my Trans command, power elbow & downpipe, and big head wastegate actuator installed last night and I can definitely tell a difference. The transmission has nice firm shifts and the truck seems to be more responsive. The instructions were also very easy to follow.
I can definitely hear the turbo spooling up, which sounds really cool.
I can’t wait to get the Big Hoss module installed; I’ll let you know how that goes.
I just wanted to drop you guys (and gals) a letter stating how much I appreciate your products. I just spent the afternoon taking a competitor's product off my truck because it did not work as claimed and in fact made my vehicle unpleasant to drive. I have several Banks items on my truck and they all have fit perfectly, worked as claimed and have never caused me a minute of dissatisfaction. I will always buy from your company in the future for any performance product related to my vehicle. Trust me when I say I just wasted $400 to learn that I should've stuck with a brand I know and trust. Keep up the good work.
Frank, I just wanted you to know that once again, I received my order in great time and packaged very well! Your S&R Dept do very good work and I commend them for this.
I know you must speak to a lot of people every work day and you may not remember but, I told you in the past that I wasn't very mechanically inclined but I do like to change my own oil and easy tasks like that.
Well, the instructions that came with all my parts were so well detailed that after reading over all of this, I thought to myself: I think I can do this!
I gathered all my tools and began. I'm so excited I can't hardly believe it! I've got it all hooked up! YES!!!!
I received it all on a Friday ( Good shipping to S. Louisiana in 5 days! Pretty cool.
Saturday morning I began. Now you've got to realize, I'm kinda slow, not too sure of myself, had to go back over papers and read carefully,
trying to prevent any mistakes. You know the drill, pulled right front wheel, drilled & tapped exhaust manifold for EGT probe.
Went to work on Big-Head Actuator. Wrapped that up and tackled Six Gun Tuner. Feeling pretty good, Frank!
Once I got the IQ mounted and wired, I thought, well, I'm going to re-attach battery cables, say a prayer & awaken the beast!
I might be sleeping in the shed but, I'm a happy camper!
